Certified Birth Records are available for purchase at the Government Center Vital Statistics office or the Columbia Heights and Coon Rapids License Centers for most persons born in Minnesota from 1935 to the present. You do not have to contact the county where the birth occurred.

For persons whose birth was recorded in Anoka County from 1870 to 1934, birth records can be obtained at the Government Center Vital Statistics office.

If you were born before 1935, you can contact the Government Center Vital Statistics office to have your birth record information input to the state system. Once this information is entered, your birth record can be purchased throughout the State of Minnesota.

To view or obtain a record, please fill out a Minnesota Birth and Death Record Application form. If you submit the form in person, you must present proof of your identity.  If you submit the form by mail or fax, a notarized signature along with your birth date is required. Payment must be made when the copy is purchased.

You must also demonstrate a "Tangible Interest" before you can view or obtain a Certified Birth Record.

For more information about birth records, call the Government Center Vital Statistics office or an Anoka County License Center.
