Fall Programs at Anoka County Parks

Fall is a great time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors!
Join the Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department at these
upcoming programs!
Fabulous Fall! – Super Sprouts Club
We’ll explore what happens in autumn to make the leaves change
color and enjoy a fun hike and picnic. Pre-registration
required by calling 651-429-8007. For children ages 6 and 7. Fee:
$3/child. Saturday, October 13; 10 a.m.-12 noon at the Wargo
Nature Center in Lino Lakes.
Predators of Minnesota – Young Naturalists Club
Minnesota is home to some amazing animals. Learn about predator
adaptations by exploring the area around the Wargo Nature Center,
identifying skulls, and playing games. Pre-registration required by
calling 651-429-8007. For children ages 8-11. Fee: $3/child.
Saturday, October 13; 10 a.m.-12 noon at the Wargo Nature Center in
Lino Lakes.
Winter Birds and Feeding Basics
Now is the time to think about feeding the birds this winter. We
will view slides of bird species found in our area during the winter
months, including a few species we have not seen since early last
spring. We will discuss feeder types and the kinds of food
preferred by various species. Pre-registration required by
calling 651-429-8007. Fee: $3/person or $7/family of four.
Sunday, October 14; 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. at the Wargo Nature Center in
Lino Lakes.
Go Batty with a Naturalist – Nymphs and Nuthatches Preschool
Program
Let’s learn about bats in Minnesota. Where do they live?
What do they eat? Will they really get stuck in your hair? This
program is geared for preschool children ages 4 and 5.
Pre-registration required by calling 651-429-8007. Fee: $3/child.
Wednesday, October 17; 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. at Coon Rapids Dam
Regional Park in Coon Rapids or Wednesday, October 17; 1-2:30 p.m.
at the Wargo Nature Center in Lino Lakes.
NEW! Searching for the Stars
Join us on the third Thursday of each month for this new family
astronomy series to learn about the night sky in all its splendor!
Learn about the stars, sun, moon, planets, dark sky objects, and
telescopes as we explore astronomy with hands-on activities. We’ll
also spend time outside over the fall and winter months. Class will
take place regardless of weather. Bring your family and become
solarized! Class is appropriate for ages 6 and older. Fee
each session: $3/person or $7/family up to four. Thursday,
October 18; 6:30-8 p.m. at the Wargo Nature Center in Lino Lakes.
Bird Walk Series
Join an experienced birder on a walking tour of several Anoka
County parks. Enjoy seeing and hearing 20 to 50 different species
of birds. A checklist of Minnesota birds and a map of each area
will be provided. All ages and birding abilities are welcome. For
more information call 763-757-4700. Fee: $3/person. Saturday,
October 20; 8-10 a.m. at Coon Rapids Dam Visitor Center in Coon
Rapids.
Birding Carlos Avery
Take a combination driving/walking birding tour in the Carlos
Avery Wildlife Management Area. By October some summer bird species
have already headed south. Other species, including many ducks that
spent the summer farther north, will now be in Carlos Avery.
Pre-registration is required by calling 651-429-8007. Fee:
$3/person. Saturday, October 20; 9-11:30 a.m. at the Wargo Nature
Center in Lino Lakes.
Fall Hikes with a Naturalist
Spend a Sunday afternoon with a naturalist exploring the natural
wonders of the forest, lake, and prairie habitats. Please dress for
the weather. Fee: FREE! Sunday, October 28; 2-3 p.m. and Sunday,
November 4; 2-3 p.m. at the Wargo Nature Center in Lino Lakes.
The Wargo Nature Center is located at 7701 Main St. within the Rice
Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve in Lino Lakes. Note: Due to
construction on Main St., watch for detours to the Wargo Nature
Center. For the most current information on road construction,

the Main St. project.
Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park is located in the city of Coon Rapids
along the Mississippi River. The park entrance is at the
intersection of Coon Rapids Blvd. and Egret Blvd.
