Itching
to get outside? Join the
Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department at these upcoming
programs!
Sunday at the
Movies
Join us at the
Wargo
Nature
Center
in
Lino
Lakes
for an enjoyable afternoon viewing movies about nature—beverage and
popcorn included! A
naturalist will be on hand to answer questions and introduce you to
the lives of Minnesota’s furred and feathered friends.
Fee:
$1/person.
Sunday, December 2 and 16, 2
p.m. at the Wargo Nature Center in Lino Lakes.
Nature Across the
Continent: Minnesota
to
Alaska
Linked Together
Sit back, relax, and enjoy viewing some of Alaska’s awesome
scenery and wildlife as you learn how the animals of Minnesota and
Alaska are linked together.
Whether it is flyways, adaptations, related species, or human
impact, what happens here shows up in nature thousands of miles
away. This program is geared
for people aged 12-90. We
will meet at the Coon Rapids Dam Visitor Center in the upper level
meeting room.

Bird Bop! – Super
Sprouts Club
We’ll explore why birds come in so many wonderful shapes,
sizes, and colors. In
addition, we’ll make tasty winter snacks to help our feathered
friends get through the winter.

Tricky Tracks –
Young Naturalists Club
Winter is a great time to find animal tracks.
We will identify different
animal signs and look for animals that live near the Nature Center.

How do they do it? – Nymphs
Preschool Program
Join us as we explore how animals prepare for Minnesota
winters. What do they do to
get ready for the cold, snowy weather?
Where do they go?
We will also make a natural
craft for the animals. This
program is geared for preschool children, ages 4-5.

NEW! Searching for
the Stars
Join us on the third Thursday of each month for this new
family astronomy series to learn about the night sky in all its
splendor! Come learn about
the stars, sun, moon, planets, dark sky objects, and telescopes as
we explore astronomy with hands-on activities and time outside.
Class will take place
regardless of weather. Bring
your family and become “solarized!” Class
is appropriate for ages 6 and older.
Fee per session:
$3/person or $7/family up to four. Thursday,
December 20, 6:30-8 p.m. at the Wargo Nature Center in Lino Lakes.
Winter Recreation
Camp
This one-day camp includes a variety of winter activities
including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, kick sledding, winter
games, and more. Join in on
the winter fun! Pre-registration

Cross-Country Ski
Learn how fun and easy it is to cross-country ski.
Cross-country skiing is a
lifelong activity and is appropriate for people of all ages and
abilities. The fee includes
ski rental and instruction.

Tracks, Trails,
and Puppy Dog Tails
Put on a pair of snowshoes to explore the signs of winter.
What animal left a track or
trail? Learn how to make a
cast of your pet’s paws to use as Christmas tree ornaments.
Hot chocolate and snacks will
refuel you for exploring on your own afterwards.

The Wargo Nature Center is located at 7701 Main Street,
within the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve in Lino Lakes.

under construction and detours to the Wargo Nature Center are in

Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park is located in the City of Coon
Rapids along the Mississippi River. The
park entrance is at the intersection of Coon Rapids and Egret
Boulevards. Follow Egret
Boulevard south to the visitor contact station.
