NOMINATIONS REQUESTED FOR COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH AWARD
Nominations are being sought for the annual Anoka County Public
Health Recognition Award to be presented by the Anoka County Board
of Commissioners. The award recognizes and honors citizens in Anoka
County who devote their time, energy and talents to improving public
health in their communities.
There are two categories for the award:
- Youth-Focused: individual or group. The award will recognize
an individual who is 17 years or younger at the time of
nomination or an organization that is youth led.
- Adult: individual or group. The award will be presented to
an individual who is 18 years or older at the time of
nomination, or to a group (partnerships, community coalitions,
organizations).
The selection committee, comprised of public
health professionals and community volunteers, is looking for
applicants who demonstrate leadership and success in creating
solutions to public health problems and advocacy for approaches that
promote healthy behaviors or help protect the health
and safety of county citizens.
“The county’s public health mission is to protect and promote the
health and safety of the community. This award recognizes Anoka
County’s partners in that mission,” said Commissioner Rhonda
Sivarajah, chair of the county’s Human Services Committee.
“We’re fortunate in Anoka County to have so many talented people
who are willing to give their time and energy to benefit others,”
said Sivarajah.
The deadline for nominations is February 1, 2008. Nomination
forms are available online, at
www.anokacounty.us, or by calling Sandy Ives in Anoka County
Community Health and Environmental Services, 763-422-7187. The
awards will be presented in April, which is designated as public
health month in Anoka County.
