Two mental health trainings will be offered in May to help professionals who work with young Anoka County children and their families.

Professionals serving Anoka County children will be supported through these trainings by strengthening their abilities to use available tools and community networks, according to Anoka County Commissioner Rhonda Sivarajah, co-chair of the Anoka County Children and Family Council, a sponsoring agency for the trainings.

“Our goal is to help professionals successfully assist families with early intervention, diagnosis and treatment, which ultimately will result in better outcomes” Commissioner Sivarajah said.

The first training, Building Strong Foundations, will be held May 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Greenhaven Golf Course in Anoka. A second, two-day training, Why Diagnose Very Young Children, will be held May 15 and 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, at Greenhaven Golf Course in Anoka. This training is designed for mental health professionals working within the infant-family field that have experience with the diagnostic procedures using DSMIV or ICD1- criteria. The registration fee is $50.00. Training topics will include:

·       Creating an Environment for Learning

·       Introduction to Infant Mental Health and policy updates

Trainers for the events are Terrie Rose, Ph.D., L.P., National DC: 0-3R Trainer and Antonia Wilcoxin, M.I.M., Mental Health Consultant and Project Coordinator for the Great Start Minnesota/ABCD II project at the Minnesota Department of Human Services-Children’s Mental Health Division.

Participants will receive books, certificates of attendance and/or continuing education credits.

The trainings are provided by the Anoka County Children and Family Council and the Mental Wellness Campaign for Anoka County. Their goal is to help build a comprehensive support system for families. The Minnesota Department of Human Services-Children’s Mental Health and the Minnesota Department of Health are collaborating with these organizations to support professionals by presenting information and assisting with materials.
