Dangerously High Water Prompts Boat Launch Closing
Anoka County has closed the public boat launch at Coon Rapids Dam
Regional Park due to dangerously high water levels on the
Mississippi River. Water levels are not expected to drop for more
than a week. The boat launch will likely remain closed through the
fishing opener on May 10.
In addition, the public is advised that the Three Rivers Park
District, owner and operator of the Coon Rapids Dam, is currently
unable to place the safety buoys in the river above the dam due to
high water. As a result, the dam is currently not safely marked for
watercraft users on the Mississippi River above Coon Rapids Dam. For
more information regarding the current status of dam operations and
flow conditions, please visit
www.threeriversparkdistrict.org.
An alternative public boat launch is located upstream of the Coon
Rapids Dam in the city of Anoka’s Akin Riverside Park. Akin
Riverside Park is located on the east side of the Rum River near the
confluence of the Mississippi River. This boat launch is currently
open, however, the flow is also high in this area.
For the latest information on the status of the boat launch at
Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, please contact the Anoka County Parks
and Recreation Department at 763-757-3920 or on the Web at
www.anokacountyparks.com.
