COUNTY RECOGNIZES SENIORS FOR VOLUNTEER SERVICE

“RSVP Volunteers – Stars of
the North” was the theme of the Anoka County RSVP (Retired and Senior
Volunteer Program) Recognition Banquet held May 5 at the Fridley VFW Post #363.
More than 250 RSVP members
attended the event which highlighted the strengths and contributions
of senior volunteers. In 2007, 477 RSVP members contributed more
than 74,000 hours of volunteer service to communities in Anoka
County. Their service included providing rides to medical
appointments, stocking food shelves, tutoring students, offering
respite for caregivers, preparing tax forms, working in hospitals,
sewing for the needy, leading groups, entertaining, offering health
insurance education, providing office support, and assisting at
special events.
Years of service awards
were presented to members serving for 10, 15, and 25 years.
RSVP is a Senior Corps
program, federally administered by the Corporation for National and
Community Service and sponsored locally by Anoka County.
