FAQs - Online Payment Fees

Q1. Is there a fee to pay my property taxes on the Web site?

Yes. Echeck is $1.00. Credit/debit cards are 2.25% of the total dollar amount. You can pay multiple parcels on one payment

Q2. Why does Anoka County charge a fee for credit/debit card transactions?

Anoka County does not charge a fee. The fees are charged by the company we use to handle credit card transactions. Anoka County does not receive any of the fee amounts charged to your credit/debit card account for paying property taxes.

Q3. Why doesn't Anoka County handle its own card transactions and eliminate the fee?

Minnesota Statute allows the counties to accept credit cards for payment of real-estate taxes but specifies that any fees charged by the credit card companies must be passed on to the taxpayer and not paid by the county.

Q4. I don't have to pay a fee when I use my credit/debit card anywhere else. Why do I have to pay a fee to pay my property taxes?

There is always a fee charged by the credit card company - for the "loaning" of the money for 30 days. In private industry the merchant pays the fee but is able to recover the cost by increasing the price of their products.

Q5. If Anoka County doesn't receive the fee amounts, who does?

The fee that is paid is divided between the credit card company and the third party – US Bank in this instance - the county receives only the property tax payment. The $1.00 fee for e-check is also kept by the bank. We receive none of the convenience fee.

Q6. Why is Anoka County offering this service?

This is a service that has been requested for several years by taxpayers. Since we are prohibited from paying the fee, the only way we can offer credit cards as a payment option is to go through a third party.

Q7. Are there any other payment options I can use that don't charge a fee?

Yes, you can have funds taken directly from your bank account at certain times of the year.  Please call 763-323-5400 for more information on this option. You can also mail in your payment by check or take cash to the Property Records and Taxation Public Service Counter on the first floor of the County Government Center in Anoka.

Q8. What debit/credit cards are accepted??

MasterCard and Visa.
