The Gathering: Out-of-home Group Respite

The Gathering is a daytime, out-of-home group respite program for caregivers and care receivers.  See locations and schedules below.

Please note the Requirements for Participating in the Senior Caregiver Network

• The Gathering is a safe, enjoyable place for seniors living with long-term illness to socialize. (All participants must have a needs assessment by the Senior Caregiver Network Coordinator prior to participating.)
• The Gathering gives caregivers the opportunity to have several hours’ respite.
• At The Gathering, members of Anoka County faith communities have the opportunity to share in the care of our community’s seniors.

Dedicated and trained volunteers, supervised by a registered nurse, operate the program. Participants can enjoy fellowship, lunch, and activities while caregivers enjoy support group meetings, education, and time away from caregiving. Caregivers may attend support group meetings whether their loved ones participate in The Gathering or not.

Group Respite Schedule

Our Saviour's Lutheran Church - 19001 Jackson Street, East Bethel, MN  55011

This is an opportunity offered in collaboration with Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in East Bethel. The Gathering offers a support group for caregivers while also offering respite care to care receivers. Please contact Norma Monson, or Con Matros, Our Saviours Lutheran Church, at 763-434-6117, or Jill Agyekum, SCN, at 763-422-6960 for further information.

• Will be held 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month beginning at 10 a.m.

The Church of the Epiphany, 1900 111th Avenue NW, Coon Rapids, MN

This is an opportunity offered in collaboration with The Church of the Epiphany in Coon Rapids. The Gathering offers a support group for caregivers while also offering respite care to care receivers. After the support group, lunch will also be available. Additional respite care is available for care recipients after lunch. If you are interested in respite care, please contact Jill Agyekum, Senior Caregiver Network, 763-422-6960 or Connie Kassing, Gathering Coordinator, Faith Community Nurse Program of Mercy & Unity Hospitals, 763-236-4344 to complete an assessment prior to participation in The Gathering.

Zion Lutheran Church, 1601 4th Avenue South, Anoka, MN

This is an opportunity offered in collaboration with Zion Lutheran Church.  The Gathering offers a support group for caregivers while also offering respite care to caregivers. After the support group, lunch will be available for you and your loved one. Additional respite care is available for care recipients after lunch. If you are interested in respite care, please contact Jill Agyekum at 763-422-6960 or Judy Martin at 763-506-8105 so an assessment can be completed prior to participating in The Gathering.

• Will be held 2nd and 4th Thursdays of every month beginning at 10 a.m.

Nativity Lutheran Church, 3312 Silver Lake Road, St. Anthony, MN  55418

This is an opportunity offered in collaboration with Nativity Lutheran Church. The Gathering offers a support group for caregivers while also offering respite care to care receivers. If you are interested in utilizing respite care for your loved one, contact Jill Agyekum @ 763-422-6960 or Eva Addison @ 612-781-2766 to complete an assessment prior to participation in The Gathering.

• Will meet 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month from 10 a.m. -1 p.m.
