About the department

The Community Mental Health Services Department is charged with meeting the County’s obligations under the Comprehensive Mental Health Act for Adults and the Comprehensive Children’s Mental Health Act. These mandates include the provision of case management, information and referral, screening, outpatient mental health services, community support programs (adults), family community support services (children) and residential services. The Department has also been assigned responsibility for pre-petition screening as part of the civil commitment process in the County. Additional services offered by the Department, most of them mandated by other laws, include medication management, crisis mental health services, supported employment, respite care and day treatment.

The Department is managed jointly with the Community Social Services Department. In addition, Anoka County has entered into a partnership with the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center to decrease utilization of the Regional Treatment Center through improved crisis intervention and case management in the community.
