State law prohibits putting yard waste in your garbage, (Minnesota Statutes § 115A.931). “Yard waste” includes garden wastes, leaves, lawn cuttings, weeds, shrub and tree waste, and prunings. Your garbage hauler may offer separate yard waste collection services.

Anoka County has 2 compost sites available to its residents. Residential quantities of sod are accepted at both sites. You must show proof of residency to use the sites. Residents may drop off yard and tree waste.

Hours of operation: April – November, weather permitting Monday – Friday: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. (or sunset, if earlier)* Saturday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (or sunset, if earlier)* Sunday: Noon – 5 p.m. (or sunset, if earlier)* Closed Easter Sunday, Memorial Day (observed), Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day * Starting at the end of September, sunset occurs before 7 p.m. The compost sites are not equipped with lights. For the safety of our workers and users we cannot allow access to the site after sunset. Please allow at least 15 minutes before closing time to pay for and unload your yard waste. Fee: Leaves and Grass (and other non-woody yard waste) Free for the first 4 cubic yards (approximately 32 paper yard waste bags) $5 for each load in excess of 4 cubic yards Tree Waste The price depends on the size and amount of the material. The loads are measured to determine the quantity that is being dropped off. Tree waste may be loose or bundled. The more compact you make your load, the lower the fee. Branches 6 inches or less in diameter - $6/cubic yard Branches or logs greater than 6 inches to 18 inches in diameter - $10/cubic yard Branches, trunks, or logs greater than 18 inches in diameter - $20/cubic yard Stumps up to 36 inches - $40/cubic yard Stumps greater than 36 inches in diameter - $60/cubic yard Dirty loads - $20/cubic yard Christmas trees (clean) - No charge Christmas wreaths - $5.00/wreath
