Information About:
Wood - Treated
Treated wood contains chemical preservatives (pesticides) to inhibit fungal decay and extend the life of the wood. Treated wood is commonly used for playground equipment, decks, docks, and landscaping. While treating wood lengthens its useful life and conserves trees, some of the chemicals used in treating wood are toxic.
Special precautions are needed to use treated wood safely. Select "Treated Wood: Use, Disposal, and Alternatives for Consumers" from Fact sheets and how-to guides on the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency website.
