Boxboard is a rigid, heavy, layered paper used to make food packaging and gift boxes.  It is not the same as corrugated cardboard which has a wavy center layer.

• Keep clean and dry. 
• Remove any film or food, then flatten. 
• Place boxboard (cereal, cake and chip boxes) in your cart with your other recyclables. 
• Do not place boxboard in plastic bags. 
• Don't forget to recycle boxes from medication, toothpaste, shoes, and gifts.

• Up to 65% less energy is required to make new paper from recycled paper than from virgin wood. 
• Every ton of recycled paper saves approximately 17 trees.

What is boxboard recycled into?
Boxboard is made with three layers in the metro area at WestRock in St Paul.  The outside layer is made from high-grade office paper which makes a smooth, bright printing surface.  The inside layer is made from newsprint (the least expensive recycled paper) and the interior layer is made from corrugated cardboard.  The manufacturer is able to provide the best boxboard at the lowest cost for their customer by using a variety of materials.
