Oil-based paints include enamels, varnishes, shellacs, lacquers, stains, and sealers.  These products contain solvents and metals that are toxic to humans and animals.  Oil paint vapors are both toxic and flammable.

The label may state “alkyd,” “oil-based,” “combustible,” or “flammable.”  Cleanup instructions recommend cleanup with mineral spirits or another solvent.

If the label is missing or unreadable, assume paint is oil-based for disposal purposes.
