Paper is shredded to protect personal and business data.  It is generally a high grade paper and is recyclable as long as it is not contaminated with carbon paper, plastic, and metal.

Preparation:
  • Keep clean and dry.   
  • Do not place in curbside recycling cart.

  • Every hour metropolitan area residents place over 42,000 pounds of recyclable papermixed and mail in the garbage.

What is shredded paper recycled into?
Shredded paper is collected, baled and taken to a paper mill where it is mixed with hot water and turned into pulp.  The pulp is screened for contaminants, cleaned, often de-inked and bleached, and then made into new paper products.  Shredded paper can be used to make  many new paper products.
