Helping you find the what, where, when and how to recycle

My container is full.

Congratulations, you deserve a “gold star”!

Extra containers are available by calling your recycling coordinator or service provider.   You could also use an old laundry basket, box or bag for the extra recyclables.   Keep up the good work!

I can’t carry the recycling container to the curb.

Some suggestions to help you:

  • Use a wagon, wheelbarrow or luggage cart.
  • Put your recyclables in the trunk of your car and drive it down to the curb.
  • Ask your neighbor or family to help.

I don’t have room in my house for recyclables.

Try placing an extra container next to your garbage can for recyclables.   Just be sure that everyone in your house knows which one is for recycling.

If you don’t have room to store your paper out of sight, a decorative basket or bin is a great place for newspaper and mixed mail until recycling day.

I don’t have enough recyclables to bother.

Recycling conserves our natural resources.   Remember that recyclables are used to make new products and there are markets waiting for them.

Please review the list of items recycled in your community.   If you need help, call your recycling coordinator or Anoka County Integrated Waste Management at 763-323-5730.

Recycling is too hard.

Actually recycling is easier than it used to be:

  • You do not have to remove labels.
  • You do not have to sort glass, plastic or metal containers.
  • Newspaper and mixed mail can be placed in a paper bag.
  • You can recycle everything that comes with the newspaper including the glossy ads.
  • Placing your recycling container next to your garbage can make recycling more convenient.

I forgot it was recycling day.

No problem, you can wait until your next recycling day or take your material to a drop-off recycling center near you.

Recycling stickers are available from your recycling coordinator or Anoka County - call 763-323-5730.   Just place the stickers on your calendar as a reminder.

I don’t know what to recycle.

Call your recycling coordinator at your city or town hall.   Request a list of materials that are picked up at the curb or acceptable at a drop-off recycling center.

Just follow the instructions and please do not add items that are not on the list.

Materials commonly recycled in Anoka County:

  • Glass and metal food containers
  • Plastic containers and with a neck
  • Newspaper and its supplements
  • Cake, cracker, cereal and chip boxes
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Phone books
  • Junk mail

I don’t know when to recycle.

Call your recycling coordinator at your city or town hall or your recycling service provider.   They will tell you when to have your recyclables at the curb or the hours of a drop-off recycling center near you.

Many drop-off recycling centers are open to all Anoka County residents.

They didn’t pick up my recyclables.

If you don’t want to keep your recyclables until the next pickup, call your hauler to see if they will come back and pick yours up.   Or you can take your recyclables to a local drop-off center.

Thank you for helping your community recycle and conserving our natural resources for future use!
