What are the jail’s visiting hours and requirements?

Hours
Visitation for adults: Saturday, Sunday and Holidays: 8:00 - 11:00 AM and 12:15 to 2:15 PM. Wednesday: 7:00 - 9:00 PM.
Visitation for families (for children under the age of 18): Sunday 8:00 - 11:00 AM.

Requirements
Adult visitors must be over the age of 18 and present a valid photo ID. Family visits include members of the immediate family only. An adult visitor must accompany children under the age of 18. No more than three children per family visiting session. One adult visitor per visiting session is permitted. All visits are approximately 20 minutes in length.

Restrictions
Incoming mail is opened and inspected. Photographs or artwork containing nudity or that is sexually explicit, or that contains gang related material will not be accepted. No packages are accepted. Magazines, books, and newspapers must be mailed directly from a publisher or mail-order vendor.

Can I give money to an inmate?

Money, in the form of cash or a money order for an inmate is accepted at the jail. Money, in the form of cash or a money order can also be mailed directly to an inmate. The money order (recommended procedure) should be made out to the inmate. Money mailed to an inmate will be removed from the envelope and credited to the inmate’s account when it is received.

What kind of health care and medication do inmates receive?

Health care for inmates is provided by medical staff at the jail. This includes the determination of need for treatment by health care providers in the community. If an inmate is under the care of a private health care provider, jail medical staff will work with such providers to continue necessary treatment.

Inmates who receive prescription medication through a private health care provider may continue the medication if approved by jail medical staff. Approved prescription medication for an inmate may also be delivered in its original container to the jail.

Can inmates make or receive phone calls?

Inmates cannot receive incoming telephone calls. In case of emergencies inmates will be notified and be allowed to make an outgoing call.

All outgoing inmate telephone calls are “collect” and are charged to the person being called. The recipient of any inmate collect call from the jail will first hear a recorded message that details how such a call may be accepted or declined. The calling inmate is not connected to the call recipient until the call has been accepted. The charge for a 15-minute local collect call is $2.00. Long distance call charges are based on the location being called.

Inmates being released on their own recognizance are allowed to make no-charge telephone calls to arrange transportation.

Inmates being released or transferred to another facility are not allowed to make telephone calls prior to release or transfer.

Can phone calls from inmates be blocked?

If any person receiving calls from an inmate does not wish to receive such calls, that person may request that the telephone number be blocked by calling the jail at 763-422-6906. A blocked telephone will receive no calls from any jail inmate telephone.

The following information about any current or former inmate of the Anoka County Jail may be obtained by calling the jail at 763-422-6906: dates of incarceration, charges, next scheduled court date, and bail amount. You can also search the list of current jail inmates.

Where and how do I apply for a Permit to Carry?

Go to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Web site for the most current information about permit to carry. You can download the application from that Web site (Adobe Acrobat format).

Anoka County citizens must apply in person at the Sheriff's Office in the Courthouse building, 325 East Main Street, Anoka. Download the Permit to Carry Requirements / Instructions sheet from this Web site (Adobe Acrobat format.

What are the training requirements and where do I get the appropriate training for a Permit to Carry?

What is the cost for application?

The cost to apply for a permit to carry is $100 (valid for five years).

Where will I be able to legally carry a handgun?

The Minnesota Personal Protection Act provides for private businesses, homeowners and employers to restrict the presence of handguns under certain conditions. Citizens intending to carry a concealed weapon are responsible to understand the restrictions included in the legislation. See Minnesota State Statute 624.714.

What if I already have a permit to carry?

Existing permits are valid until the date of expiration. At that time applicants will apply under the guidelines of the new bill and will be required to submit an approved application packet.

What if I want to purchase a handgun?

A Permit to Carry can also be used as a Permit to Purchase.
