The Sheriff's Office Jail Division includes both the Jail and the Warrants Unit. The jail is used to incarcerate persons charged with or convicted of a criminal offense.
Jail
The Anoka County Jail primarily houses male inmates who:
are jailed and waiting to see a judge,
are jailed and waiting for trial,
have been convicted and sentenced for up to one year, or
are federal prisoners. Through a contract with the U.S. Marshal’s Service, these federal prisoners are temporarily housed in Anoka County while waiting for trial or assignment to a federal detention center.
Female detainees are processed through the jail and housed at another facility.
The Anoka County Jail is the primary intake and booking facility for all Anoka County law enforcement agencies.
The jail has a maximum capacity of 248 inmates.
While in custody inmates are provided a constitutionally-mandated level of health care as well as an assortment of educational and personal help programs including:
GED classes
Parenting education
Job search skills
Anger management
Substance abuse programs including
AA
Chemical dependency awareness
Choice and change

Warrants Unit
The Jail Division also includes the Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit. Each year nearly 12,000 warrants are issued and processed through the unit. Warrants are entered into both a statewide and nationwide database. Detention staff also verifies the existence of warrants and removes them from the database systems.
