Driveway sealer is an asphalt emulsion used to fill cracks in asphalt or blacktop surfaces and to reseal such surfaces.  Driveway sealer is either latex-based or petroleum-based.

When purchasing driveway sealer, buy a latex-based product whenever possible, as it is generally less hazardous than a petroleum-based product.

Store driveway sealer in the basement where it won’t freeze, not in the garage.  Letting latex driveway sealer freeze even one time makes it unusable.

Place empty driveway sealer pails in the garbage.  Leave the lids off the pails so the garbage hauler can see that the pails are empty.
