Share your copy of your latest magazine or catalog when you are done.  Magazines and catalogs are printed on coated groundwood paper similar to the paper used for newspaper.  Clay, the most common coating, smoothes the paper’s surface and helps glossy inks adhere better.

• Keep clean and dry. 
• Place in a brown paper bag with other paper or loose in a recycling container. 
• Do not place magazines and catalogs in plastic bags.

Do not recycle these: 
Magazines and catalogs contaminated with food, grease or other chemicals.

• One ton of recycled paper saves enough energy to power an average home for six months. 
• Every ton of paper that is recovered saves 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space.

What are magazines and catalogs recycled into?
Magazines and catalogs are collected, baled and taken to a paper mill where they are mixed with hot water and turned into pulp.  The pulp is screened for contaminants, cleaned, often de-inked and bleached, and then made into new paper products.  Magazines and catalogs are recycled into items such as food/gift boxes (boxboard), tissue paper, game boards, and greeting cards.
